David and Emily are such an adorable couple who are so in love! Their faith in God is also very important to them and it was a blessing to see that recognized throughout the entire wedding day.

Their family is so sweet and fun and we loved spending time with everyone at the beautiful Gettysvue Country Club in Knoxville. It’s such a fabulous and versatile wedding venue. The weather was just perfect for an outdoor ceremony. The family worked so hard putting together a lovely and elegant wedding. One of my favorite parts of the day, was David’s face seeing his stunning bride for the first time as she came down the aisle! He just cried and cried…then cried some more. So very sweet… I just love being able to capture these moments! It was also so sweet when David’s mother played their song, “In Christ Alone” on the piano while a friend of theirs sang it. So beautiful!

Emily and David’s story began when they met in her parent’s backyard during her sister’s wedding rehearsal in California. He was a groomsman, she a bridesmaid, and they hit it off talking about their love of music and ending the night at the piano where David played her a different arrangement of “In Christ Alone.” They exchanged glances and small talk at the wedding the next day, but when their connection really began was after David was back home in Tennessee. He friended Emily on Facebook, and it was definitely a long distance friendship until David flew out to California for a vacation with his family and they met up again. After spending some time together, they realized they wanted to be more than just friends and began their long distance relationship which led to Emily moving out to Knoxville and later a fun surprise engagement in Idaho!

Jonathan and I had such a fun day capturing Emily and David’s big day! I was so thrilled to photograph my second Prenshaw wedding! I had the privilege of photographing his older brother’s wedding two years ago. It was definitely a pleasure to be with their sweet family again.

65 Year Anniversary Session | Jim & Mary

If you enjoy a good “love at first sight” story, then you are going to fall head over heels for this couple! Jim and Mary Johnson’s love story actually began over 65 years ago when Jim, a college student at the Johnson Bible College in Knoxville, TN, needed to have surgery at the Baptist Hospital. On the way to his room, Jim spotted a beautiful blonde nurse who smiled at him, he smiled back at her, and as all “love at first sight” stories go, both turned back to catch another glimpse of the other. Jim told his roommate he was going to marry that blonde nurse down the hall. Two days after his surgery, his roommate came to see him at the hospital and couldn’t find him in his room, instead he was across the street at Kay’s ice cream with Mary White, that beautiful blonde headed nurse. Just a year or so later, the two were married in September of 1951, at the Oral Baptist Church in Lenoir City, TN and here we are 65 years later still celebrating!

I LOVED this anniversary shoot! Mary mentioned that she didn’t really like having her photo taken, but I realized very early on that she and Jim were actually pros! Jim mentioned that he’s had 65 years of practice on how to hold and nuzzle his bride! So stinking adorable! I had a hard time choosing from all the many precious photos and moments captured. There is still so much joy and love between them even after 65 years! So sweet and a beautiful testimony to all couples about staying together! To all of my recently married couples, I hope you have these same smiles after 65 years together. This photo shoot was a gift to this “young at heart” couple from their daughter who wanted to honor their years of marriage in this way. A wonderful idea to preserve a beautiful love while they are still able to. I hope to have many more sessions like these in the future! Congratulations on 65 years of marriage Jim and Mary!

Knoxville Wedding Photographer | Two Rivers Church Winter Wedding

I am so glad that I got to finish off my 2014 weddings with Andre and Hilary. Young love is just so precious! Unlike most brides, Hilary won’t get a new last name on her wedding day. Andre’s last name is Thompson and so was hers… It was so funny hearing the minister announce them. I kept telling Hilary, but you’ve never been a “Mrs. Hilary Thompson before, you’ve only been a Miss Hilary Thompson.”

Hilary is kind and soft spoken and Andre is such a sincere person. They are such a great match for one another. Hilary met Andre at Youth group in 2012. As soon as Andre saw Hilary he thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever met. A month later, the youth group took a trip over to Stone Mountain. Hilary wanted to have a caricature done of her and in order to save money asked if anyone from the group would volunteer to go in with her on it. If you ask me, that was a subtle way to move things along…. Hahah! Andre quickly “volunteered” and that was the beginning of their special friendship… In November of that year, Andre asked Hilary’s Dads permission to officially court his daughter with the intention of marrying her.

There were so many highlights from this wedding! From Seeing Hilary in her dress to Andre being so excited to marry his wife. One of my favorite moments of the wedding day was at the reception listening to their families share more about Hilary and Andre. Hilary’s sister mentioned how when she initially heard about Andre that she wanted to check out his trail of tears. She wanted to see how many hearts he had broken. Like any good sister would do, she read a love letter that Andre wrote to Hilary. In the letter, she realized that Hilary was actually Andre’s first and only girlfriend. It was then that she knew she could trust this man to love her sister and be a good husband to her. He won her approval.

Andre’s Dad shared how proud he was to be his father and what a great son he had always been. I loved what Hilary’s dad shared as well. Steve mentioned that everyone was asking him if he was ok and if it was hard to let his young daughter get married. He said he knew that Andre loved his daughter and would protect and honor her. He was excited that his daughter was marrying such a godly young man! It was such a beautiful moment hearing these families honor their children who just got married.

This was my first time photographing a wedding at Two Rivers Church. I absolutely loved working with Erin. She was an amazing coordinator and kept things on schedule. Big thanks to my talented assistant, Megan Haun! Thank you Anna Myers and Becca Oakes for all of the gorgeous updos!
